BACK GROUND:
Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, non-traumatic amputations, heart attacks and life expectancy is shortened by approximately10 years, if it is not controlled.
According to WHO, in Pakistan the prevalence of diabetes mellitus is 10 % while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa there are estimated 2,00,000 patients of diabetes mellitus, 20,000 of which are Type 1 insulin dependent.
Type I patients, mostly young require insulin for life and if they do not get it they die with in few months.
Type 2 patients require oral treatment but most of them require insulin at later stage of life which is required to prevent those horrible complications listed above.
Department of diabetes, Endocrinology and metabolic diseases Hayatabad medical Complex Peshawar, cater for almost 10-15000pts per year and most of them are with complication and requires insulin.
There are numerous occasions when patients come back with complication just because they have no insulin to use.
These patients are helped with insulin through donations and philanthropy but cannot cater for all the patients.
OBJECTIVE:
Insulin for life program is to help those patients who require insulin for their survival which are type 1 diabetic patient.Type 2 patients on the other hand are usually controlled on oral drugs but later require insulin for controlling diabetes and to prevent complications of diabetes. By implementing insulin for life in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa we can prevent in long run premature deaths and complications in children and young patients and also can prevent complications in Type 2 diabetes hence reducing load of complications like blindness, heart attack, kidney failure, stroke and amputations.

After InsafSehat project in Peshawar, we are launching yet another project which will bring change to the lives of people with Diabetes a chronic disease with multiple complications.
We are trying to make justice available to our people and in this project we are trying to improve lives of our diabetic patients with the thought that all type 1 diabetic patients should have access to free insulin and they should not suffer just because they cant buy insulin.
We believe in providing Quality health to our patients whether they are rich or poor and “insulin for life” is just to help those poor patients who cant live healthy life unless they have insulin.
We believe in Justice and we believe its for all and in all regards and even in health.

Health is one the many issues which concerns our people and with “Insulin for Life” project I hope we will be able to help our poor patients with free insulin delivery.
This project is for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and it’s the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to make it successful.
We hope this project will save many young people with diabetes and prevent complications of diabetes in many poor and older patients.

Diabetes is on the rise all over the world but in countries like Pakistan it has bigger impact on patients suffering from this chronic disease.
With limited resources, Health department government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa is striving to ease sufferings of people with different diseases through special incentives and resource mobilization.
In this regard health department government ofKhyber Pukhtunkhwa has allocated special funds for Insulin supply free of cost to help people with Diabetes particularly Type 1 Diabetes.
Starting this project from Hayatabad medical complex hospital Peshawar, this will be distributed through out the province in stepwise way and we hope and pledge that this will ultimately lead to better quality of life for patients with Diabetes and may also help in reducing burden of chronic complications of Diabetes.
We will continue to support this project in the years to come and hope this will bring change for better in the lives of people with Diabetes.

Diabetes is one of the most devastating diseases in terms of its complications at present time and age.
Insulin being the only treatment for type 1 Diabetic patients and also for some type2 Diabetic patients it is the only way to reduce complications.
It was once a dream to help patients with free insulin and now I am privileged to be part of a programme which serves Diabetic patients with free insulin.
We aim to provide free insulin to all type 1 patients across the province despite limited resources and to make programme successful we are safeguarding our poor type 2 diabetic patients with some registration process to make it transparent.
I being project director thank and congratulate provincial government and bureaucracy who listened to my request with great interest for helping these patients and hope that they will continue to do so in the years to come.
Every human life is precious but if this programme can safe one patient’s life , safe one eye from becoming blind, safe one limb from being amputated, safe one heart attack, and safe one kidney from failure I feel its all worth it .
Please help us make this programme successful .
